The Taking of Peggy Martin edition by Karen Glista Mystery Thriller Suspense eBooks

This book was a real up and down emotional ride. Perched on the edge of my seat and unable to put it down even late at night. "Peggy" is an example of a Nurse that really cares for her patients. I believe Karen Glista is a Nurse. It is evident in the way she portrayed Peggy's attitude about the patients. Especially the correct medical terminology. I hate stories that will use terminology that is not well researched and written. There are so many "Stories in the news/TV/books that have real or imagined legends. This was a believable story line set in East Texas. The description of all of the surroundings takes you deep in to the SCARY dark woods that there is no escaping. We own property in Oklahoma and it is easy to get lost there deer hunting, just as it happened in her book. I don't even remember an overuse of "Begot" in the paragraphs as the other Reviewer stated. The Author is a versatile Storyteller. I have read all 4 of her books. She is my new best Author. I am ANXIOUSLY awaiting her next book.

The Taking of Peggy Martin edition by Karen Glista Mystery Thriller Suspense eBooks Reviews

The Taking of Peggy Martin by Karen Glista begins as a would be Southern Gothic novel and quickly evolves into much more. Peggy is a nurse who works in a mental asylum. If that isn't creepy enough, hold on for more. Peggy's background is extreme Bible toting, God-fearing, and even more, she is a young widow. The circumstances surrounding her husband's death are a mystery. Peggy is extremely tormented not only by her husband's death, but is haunted by outrageous nightmares. She is paranoid, scared, and on edge. Unwittingly, a horrific incident within the halls of where she works throws her further into the abyss, and we the reader watch her helplessly try to climb out. Written in the first person, which is quite effective here, Peggy becomes embroiled in something she could hardly imagine. A heady mix of gothic storytelling, the supernatural, and science fiction, this story is tough to categorize, but may keep you up at night. This story is a provocative book with an unlikely heroine.
Peggy Martin is a god-fearing, lonely women, filling her days working a s a nurse in an Institution for the criminally insane, following the death of her beloved husband. Failing to sleep at night, and dealing with abhorrent patients during the day, she starts to feel like evil is stalking her every movement. Horrible, violent things have happened at the hospital, and it feels like something unspeakable is coming for her too. Is something dark really after Peggy, or is she simply crossing the barrier from nurse to patient. I wondered for a long time whether 'The Taking of Peggy Martin' was the story of a vulnerable woman's journey into madness and despair, or if it was in fact the story of a woman who has awakened something ancient and diabolical that must be stopped. You will have to read Karin Glista's great novel to find out.

The setting of 1950's America was a smart choice, as it fit really well with the underlying religious themes of the novel, which would have seemed out of place in a more contemporary backdrop. Furthermore, Glista's writing is filled with tension and atmosphere, plus her characters are extremely well-developed. I became very invested with Penny's fate, particularly as I couldn't predict what it could be. I simply couldn't stop reading.
This being the first book I read by Karen Glista, I didn't know what to expect. Once I got into it, I could hardly pit it down! Peggy Martin, the main character, it torn in many ways in this novel that were relatable and the final outcome was quite surprising.
I was hooked right away. Peggy Martin is a very intriguing character, as they all were. I wanted to know more about all of them and their experiences and little by little Karen Glista told us all the details. I enjoyed the ride!! Two thumbs up!!
Very gripping horror story with a satisfying ending. Loved the authentic 1950's east Texas dialect.
The plot is very good. It does have real potential. However, the author's use of the English reminds me of my students' use of a thesaurus. Her story doesn't flow well and has good detail, but sometimes, it is too flowery and interferes with the plot. I also did not count the number of times she used "sable locks" to describe Peggy's hair or "stentorian crash" in a fight scene. These things made the reading difficult and a bit sophomoric.
